Through continued long-term growth and development, the “S klobasicom u EU” (“With Sausage into the EU”) fair, which was held last weekend in Sveti Petar u Šumi in Istria, has become the right place for presenting traditional homemade smoked and cured meat products. Several thousand visitors had the opportunity to enjoy a wealth of flavours from all parts of Croatia, including the authentic Baranja flavours presented by Belje at its stand.
The national sausage and salami competition is an integral part of the fair – this year, Belje won three gold medals for the quality of its kulenova seka and sausage. With a total of 194 samples, the competition was the biggest so far, and 20 renowned experts rated sausages and salami in 11 different categories.
Miodrag Komlenić, the director of Baranjka, the facility for production of traditional smoked and cured meat products in Belje, who is also the president of the “Baranjski Kulen” Association, gave the following statement at the fair: “With our traditional smoked and cured meat products, we brought the flavours of Baranja to Istria, and together we presented the wealth of flavours that can be found in Croatia. The national sausage and salami competition is becoming an increasingly important part of the fair – this year, we were awarded three gold medals for quality. It was also confirmed that there is no difference between large and small producers when it comes to the traditional method of production. Traditional smoked and cured meat products simply require a lot of manual work, top experts and the finest ingredients.”
